EarPro is composed of a blend of oils that possess water repelling and anti-infection properties and work against the bacteria that cause over 80% of ear infections.

Where can I buy EarPro?

EarPro can be purchased in our online shop.

What makes EarPro different from other products on the market?

Most products on the market are designed to be used AFTER being in the water and are based on alcohol, acetic acid and/or glycerine. All of these chemicals are extremely harsh on the delicate skin of the ear canal. Apart from drying out water, they also kill the natural bacteria and flora that is needed for the ear to stay healthy.

How does EarPro actually work?

EarPro coats the ear canal with a waterproofing oil which helps to dispel water from the ear. This prevents direct skin contact with water and any contaminants or microorganisms contained in the water. This also helps to prevent infection (otitis externa) of the ear canal. The water repelling barrier also prevents entrapment which is responsible for the onset of surfer’s ear. The antimicrobial properties of EarPro also help reduce bacteria and fungi, thereby reducing the risk of microbial infections of the ear.

How do I use EarPro?

  • Add 1 spray of EarPro to each ear
  • Softly rub the tragus (outer skin) to make sure the canal is coated
  • Wipe away any surplus with a tissue
  • Wash hands after use
  • Do not “plug” the ears with loose cotton wool
  • Repeat after 2 hours of water exposure
  • EarPro leaves the ear naturally and won't get absorbed in the skin

What is outer ear infection / Swimmer's Ear (Otitis Externa)?

Different from a middle ear infection that occurs behind the eardrum, swimmers ear is an infection affecting the external skin in the ear canal.

What causes water to get trapped in the ear leading to swimmer's ear?

Otitis externa is often referred to as "swimmer's ear" because repeated exposure to water can make the ear canal more vulnerable to inflammation and infection caused by bacteria and fungi. It is also possible to contract swimmer's ear from water trapped in the ear canal after a shower, especially in humid climates. The majority of cases are caused by microbial infections. This can happen within days or weeks. Other reasons can be irritation of the ear canal from cleaning with Q-tips and other such products.

What is surfer's ears (an exostosis or abnormal bone growth within the ear canal)?

Irritation from repeated cold wind and water exposure causes the bone surrounding the ear canal to develop lumps of new bony growth which constrict the ear canal. Most avid surfers have at least some mild bone growths (exostoses), causing little to no problems. The condition is progressive, making it important to take preventative measures early, preferably whenever surfing. The condition is not limited to surfing and can occur in any activity where there is cold, wet, windy conditions such as windsurfing, kayaking, sailing, jet skiing, kite-surfing, and diving.

How common is swimmer's ear?

Otitis externa affects 1–3% of people a year; more than 95% of cases are acute. About 10% of people are affected at some point in their lives.

How common is surfer's ear?

Research carried out on professional surfers in 2018 shows that 100% of them are suffering from some level of surfers ear (auditory exostois). 50% of the participants had the highest grade of closure, meaning 2/3 of the ear canal was closed.

Symptoms of swimmer's ears

Apart from general discomfort, symptoms include: ear pain, itching, irritation in and around the ear canal, redness and swelling of the outer ear and ear canal, a feeling of pressure and fullness inside the ear, scaly skin in and around the ear canal, which may peel off, discharge from the ear, which can be either thin and watery or thick and pus-like, tenderness when the ear or jaw is moved, swollen and sore glands in the throat, some hearing loss could be possible.

When not to use EarPro?

"* if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to medically refined essential oils
*if you have a perforated ear drum or ear infection (e.g. after ear surgery, ventilation tubes)
*if there is anything else wrong with your ear - such as pain, swelling, discharge "

Will EarPro impact my hearing, balance or ability to equalize?

No, EarPro will not have an impact on any of the above. EarPro will potentially help your hearing as you won't have trapped water in your ears. We also had feedback from several scuba divers that it helped them equalize but have no research to confirm these claims.

What issues are caused by trapped water?

Trapped water is not a life treating condition, but can lead to outer ear infections, pain, the necessity to visit a doctor and/or the use of antibiotics. If no action is taken to remove the water, there is a risk of permanent hearing impairment or ear damage. In worst case scenarios swimmers ear can lead to deep tissue infections (cellulitis), bone and cartilage damage (necotizing otitis externa) an outer ear infection that can cause inflammation and damage the skin of the outer ear and bones of the lower part of the skull. Avoid trapped water altogether if possible.

From what age can EarPro be used?

Due to EarPro’s formulation it can be used by infants, children and adults of all ages. It does not impair hearing, balance, or the ability to equalize.

What are common treatments for Swimmer's Ear?

What are the common treatments for Surfer's Ear?

The treatment of surfer’s ear is far more complex and often involves surgery under anesthesia to remove the obstructing ear canal bone with the use of a binocular microscope. Most ear surgeons use a drill to remove the bone and may approach the area directly via the ear canal or by making an incision behind the ear and dissecting the ear forward.
